Chapter One Why?

Оглавление

There are few things in life that define us. Everyone wants to make their mark on society. So why is one of mine Mommies with Migraines? I have been treating patients for over 12 years and have never found more enjoyment than helping mothers with migraines. I can’t tell you the excitement of watching mothers find relief and, most importantly, hope. Many of these worn out mothers have had weekly, if not daily migraines for years or decades. They are so extremely fatigued their faces are drained of any energy. Many are depressed due to the hopelessness from chronic fatigue and pain. As a result, their lives and the people around them suffer. All they want is a glimmer of hope.

So, what are the options for these Mommies? Most take some type of over-the-counter medication with short-term relief or little help. The medication only offers temporary relief and is very toxic to the liver and kidneys. I am shocked by the number of women who resort to the emergency room for relief. Imagine sitting for hours in a room full of sick people with a severe pounding migraine. The smells, bright lights, and noise must be excruciating. Migraine sufferers can wait up to six hours for care in an emergency room. Many have to go through a CT-scan and countless blood tests. They will probably receive an injection of stuff that wipes them out for the rest of the day and the next day. Going through an E.R. visit reveals how badly migraine sufferers desire relief from their pain. Plus they are hit with a whopping $1,500 to $2,500 bill for the one migraine. The mother and the insurance company hate paying huge fees for each episode. The impact on work and family must be incredible. The mother may get rid of her migraine but gives up so much as a result by losing work and time with family. Mom and everyone around her suffer. If this description fits your experience, keep reading.

I grew up in a single (mother) parent home and watched as my mother kept everything together, most of the time. No matter the amount of stress, she had to keep everything together. She didn’t have a choice. There wasn’t a back up. She was by herself and did a beautiful job. She made poverty level income while working ten to twelve hours per day. She raised three vibrant and active boys. How she kept up with us I will never know. To this day, I admire my mother.

Mothers never feel they are caught up with the tasks of the day and then a migraine can wipe them out for several days. The mommy tasks don’t go away; they just pile up, leading to more stress and anxiety.

In my practice I treat a multitude of problems, but have always had the greatest success and satisfaction with headaches and migraines of mothers. I can’t describe the feeling when a mother with migraines comes in gleaming with hope and excitement after her first “normal” day without migraines. For the first time in a very long time (some can be several decades) they believe that life can be enjoyed instead of tolerated. Their energy level rises so rapidly, they can’t contain themselves. They are overjoyed and enthusiastic about life again. They finally have hope for the future. They can start living. I find it amazing the changes in the mother, as well as everyone around her. A mother has a huge impact on so many, she has to be on top of her game all the time.

My dreams are to change mothers’ lives and the lives around them. I hope this book helps. It is exactly what you put into it, no more and no less. Set your goals and work towards them. Don’t accept any less. Knowledge is a very powerful tool. Learning the causes and prevention of migraines is extremely important. If you read and really apply the information, soon your hopes and dreams can become reality.

In purchasing this book you are paying for my twelve years of experience in migraine care. Learn and use what you learn; you will not be disappointed.

Good luck and God bless.
