There’s a special pride felt by those who share Native

blood. This is dedicated to the scores of people who

honor their Native American ancestry by refusing to

forget who they are and where they come from.

To my great grandmother Ella “Tootsie” Rhoan for

trying to teach me our Native language when I was

young and for coming to my fourth grade class to

show us how to make acorn meal. I was too young to

appreciate what a gift you were giving.
