Chapter One

Cactus Grove is a desert town in the western United States. Rocky lives in a neighborhood with other desert animals with lots of kids for him to play with, but Jack and Lizzy are his best friends.

It has been a pretty boring town until news of an amusement park being built in Cactus Grove! Oh boy is Rocky and his friends happy to hear the news.

Rocky is a black rattlesnake with a white rattle on his tail. He’s friendly and likable who appears brave and confident. His friends have always admired how sure of himself he is in every situation, but Rocky has a secret they don’t know about.

One of his best friends is Jack. Jack is a sand colored jackrabbit with black rimmed ears and has big feet. He’s funny, energetic and very bouncy. Bounce, bounce, bounce, Jack could and probably does bounce all day long. He does not know about Rocky’s fear of rollercoaster.

Rocky’s other best friend is Lizzy. She is an orange with yellowish stripes desert lizard. Lizzy is a rambunctious cowgirl wannabe, her favorite catchphrase is “Yeehaww!” and when she gets excited about something, her enthusiasm is contagious. She has a birthday coming up. Lizzy does not know about Rocky’s fear of rollercoasters either.
