Preparation for the Game

New players are frequently confused and sometimes awed by the seemingly elaborate procedure necessary at the start of each hand of play. While there are several charming legendary reasons for this ritual, you will note, as you play, that it is an efficient method of organizing and distributing tiles, and it is simple to learn. It is similar to the shuffling and dealing of cards.

In Mah Jong there are no partners—each player is on his own and for himself. Once seated, the action starts.
