ОглавлениеShe was born Theresa Mary Brasier on October 1, 1956, into a middle-class family in Eastbourne, Sussex. She was the daughter of Church of England vicar, Hubert, and his wife, Zuaidee.
Her father was a Church of England clergyman who held the role of Vicar of Wheatley, and her grandfather had been a regimental sergeant major.
Her father died from injuries sustained in a car crash when she was only 25. She was raised in Oxfordshire, and attended a state primary school, an independent Covent school, and a grammar school in the village of Wheatley.
As a young girl she attended several schools including Heythrop Primary School, Oxfordshire, St. Juliana's Convent School for Girls, and the Wheatley Park Comprehensive School.
She then proceeded to the University of Oxford where she studied geography at St Hugh's College, graduating with a BA degree in 1977.
She reportedly worked in a bakery on Saturdays to earn pocket money, and was a "tall, fashion-conscious young woman who from an early age spoke of her ambition to be the first woman prime minister," according to her friends.
May is an Anglican and worships regularly. She has stated that her faith "is part of me. It is part of who I am and therefore how I approach things."
Personal Life and Legacy
She met Phillip May while she was a student and married him in 1980.
The couple could not have any children due to medical reasons. Her husband is an investment banker currently employed by Capital International.
They were introduced at a Conservative Association disco by the subsequent Pakistani Prime Minister Benazir Bhutto. The couple tied the knot in 1980 and have now been married for 36 years.
