FOREWORD

I leant from Fr. Lawrence Obilor, SC, that it was the loss of his mother on June 30, 2018, less than two years of his priestly ordination that triggered his urge to reflect deeper on the tragic situations confronting humans in this life in the light of the gospels. Obviously,

these reflections are made in his own capacity as a priest of the religious congregation of the servants of charity, presently working in Ghana.

Fr. Lawrence refers to the providential interventions of God to these tragic situations in life as the “Hour of Hope.” I cannot but wonder at the profundity of his reflections at this ‘tender age’ in the priesthood.

To those who read these reflections, I say, “please approach them with a spirit of humility and openness in order to receive the inspirations that the spirit of God who blows wherever he likes, wishes to stir in you through the words of a little child; we know that

he hides certain things from the wise and the intelligent and reveals them to infants” (Mt 11:25).

These reflections deal with the Hour of Hope in two senses: they bring consolation for the present which looks dark, and encouragement for the future which offers hope.

May the good Lord continue to accomplish what he has started in this servant of Christ.
