19…MORE PATIENCE, PLEASE

Good morning! I bet if asked, nine out of ten people would say that they could use an extra dose of patience in their life and I would be one of the nine. Patience is one of those virtues that we have to exercise in order to receive God’s best in life. Waiting on the Lord sometimes is difficult but it’s always prudent. When we don’t wait on the Lord we typically do one of a couple of things. We either get in the Lord’s way because we act as though we know best, or we try to rearrange the circumstances so things work from our very limited perspectives. By doing this, we unfortunately forfeit blessings as we jump ahead of the Lord and try to handle things ourselves, convincing ourselves that the Lord needs a helping hand. Believe it or not, the Lord does not need our help to carry out His will. True, we are often blessed by being allowed to be a part of it but if we were not there, God would handle it without us. When we try to “help” God, we are not doing it for Him. Bottom line is that we are doing it for us. We just don’t have enough patience to wait for what He is going to do, even though we know that when God handles something, it is better than anything we could imagine.

Isaiah 40:31 tells what God says about having patience. “Yet those who wait for the Lord will gain new strength; they will mount up with wings like eagles, they will run and not get tired, they will walk and not become weary.” A dear friend is battling breast cancer right now and I am so proud of the way she is standing on these promises from God. When she is through with this cancer battle, I am 100% confident that she will gain that new strength, run and not get tired, and walk and not become weary. That promise isn’t just for my girlfriend, it’s for us, too. So my prayer for each of us is that we would exercise that holy discipline of patience in our lives and watch with great anticipation to see what God will do when we get out of His way.

God, our lives would be so much better if we would just be patient and wait for You to work on our behalf. Please help us to be more patient. Amen.
