Patchwork

Оглавление

Patchwork is magical: take a few fabrics, cut them into pieces, sew them together and voilà, something unique and wonderful is produced. Patchwork is one of the most exciting, inventive and utilitarian craft forms. It’s also highly addictive and there seems to be no end to the fun and fascination of designing, combining and arranging fabrics in gloriously unique combinations.

This section begins by looking at some of the many settings or arrangements for patchwork and how working with blocks can produce an almost never-ending array of designs. We move on to seeing how certain shapes can be pieced together to create beautiful designs, including squares, strips, triangles, diamonds, polygons and curved shapes.

Other distinctive patchwork techniques explored include Seminole patchwork, crazy patchwork, puffed patchwork and folded patchwork. The section also includes special fabric techniques, such as slashing, gathering and weaving, which can be used with patchwork and appliqué to create highly tactile work. We also look at how sashing and borders can be used to develop a design.

Whether you are making a simple scrap quilt or an heirloom sampler quilt, there are some fabulous techniques to explore here.
