Honeysuckle (Lonicera sp.)

Оглавление

Honeysuckle is a very common vine found along old fence lines and winding up young saplings. North America enjoys 20 different varieties. This is a major food source for native bees and birds that feast on the berries, and serves as a nesting site for many birds as well. An old honeysuckle vine can become quite thick over the years, producing multiple side shoots.

Although honeysuckle alone is not suitable for cane staffs, it is important to note for any cane carver. These vines twist and twine around young saplings that also inhabit the edges of fields and untended fence lines. As both plants grow, the honeysuckle distorts the sapling into a spiraling, graduated twist that will eventually make an outstanding cane stick.
