The Australian Executive Women’s Network MEMBERSHIP GUIDE

Оглавление

Whether you are female or male, the ways that women are changing the world will influence your education, career, marriage, recreation, next business venture, investments, election, or advertising campaign. If you are a woman, you need to know this is not the time to hold back: it is the time to go for it!

The balance has finally tipped in women’s favour.

Alongside the decadent abuse of male power another reality grows stronger every day. Millions of women, the world over, are taking economic and political power, building new institutions, infusing them with new, more humanistic values, saving the world or a part of it.

It is not about women taking over, but women and men together expressing their full potential – neither

superior nor inferior.

Women must form networks. If empowerment is the first attribute of women’s leadership, creating the organisational structure to foster it, is the second.

The leadership to which women now aspire requires

the age, experience and maturity of the wise-woman.

Quotes from: “Megatrends for Women” – written and researched by;

Patricia Aburdene & John Naisbitt (New York, 1992)

WHAT IS NETWORKING?

“The exchange of ideas and information, among people who share interests or causes.” World Book Dictionary

“A group of people who work together informally to promote common goals:

Thinking women may be rethinking the whole concept of (women – only) networks”

New York Times

Members of the Australian Executive Women’s Network (AEWN) believe networking is an opportunity to give. If you’re prepared to share your knowledge with others and they do the same, everyone gains. Each new person you meet has her own group of business colleagues, friends and relatives. If you learn to network effectively by exchanging business cards and recording information correctly, you can quickly expand your own base of personal and business contacts.

Networking has proven to be a most successful method of expanding a business in the 21st Century. People want to do business with someone they can trust who has been personally recommended. Through a network such as the AEWN you will meet people on a regular basis who become friends in business that you can believe in.

WHO ARE EXECUTIVE WOMEN?

The word executive means to manage. A manager is a person who carries out what she has decided should be done. World Book Dictionary

Are you a Manager? Do you make decisions at home or in business and carry them out?

If so, you are an EXECUTIVE WOMAN!

THE NETWORK – MISSION STATEMENT

THE NETWORK AIMS TO:

Promote a forum for professional and business women to achieve excellence.

Stimulate interaction between executive women and businessmen.

Foster an environment in which businesswomen can interact for mutual benefit and the benefit of women in general.

Educate young executives through communication of knowledge.

WHAT THE NETWORK OFFERS YOU:

National Promotion: Your business services promoted nationally to other members and the public, through meetings, speaking competitions and the Internet.

The Telstra Business Women’s Award (previously the Telecom - Australian Executive Women of the Year Award): National nominate public recognition through the press, Internet, AEWN members and the national community. This prestigious award founded in 1987 by AEWN is now organised nationally by Telstra and we AEWN members who have achieved their goals to enter the award each year.

Books: A series of books titled The Net Result feature our AEWN members who have won an award. These books are assisting younger women in their Career Studies courses in High School, Universities, Business Colleges, and in the general community to learn from our AEWN members.

Workshops & Seminars: Informative business and personal development seminars and workshops are being held in all AEWN branches nationally to enable members of the Network to share their knowledge and experience.

The Results Club: Weekly an AEWN member who has succeeded in their career or business shares her story as a feature on the www.aware.id.au website, providing the member with international exposure.

Monthly Speaking Competitions: Each month there is an AEWN meeting, it can be a morning or afternoon tea, luncheon or dinner depending on the individual AEWN group’s preference. At each meeting three members are featured as speakers. There speech can be on the topic of their choice.

We like the AEWN co-ordinator to record these presentations so they can be emailed to AEWN and the best presentations nationally will be featured each week on the Network’s website.

Each month the best speaker is uploaded onto YouTube for international exposure.

These monthly speaking competitions have been held since 1986 and they have enabled the AEWN members to gain personal confidence while allowing them to promote their businesses or just develop their individual skills as public speakers so they can be paid as professional speakers in future.

National Speakers’ Award: The three AEWN members that speak at each monthly meeting compete on the day and the winner who is judged by the members and guests attending the meeting is the winner and has the opportunity to compete in a state competition.

State winners at the end of each year are invited to attend a national competition to gain the AEWN National Speaker’s AWARD.

Industry Focus Groups: Special meetings are organised from time to time to assist members to learn (from industry experts) about changes within their environment. These are recorded and featured on the Network’s website to benefit all members.

Fortune Forum: Would you like a group of AEWN like-minded members to spend an hour brainstorming to help you create your personal fortune?

These meetings are extremely valuable for all AEWN members who attend. The group of 10 to 15 members pull a business card out of a hat. If you are one of the lucky ones “in focus” at the session you will be given 15minutes to state: where you are currently in your business or career, your personal talents, skills and experience; where you want to be and an outline of what you want to achieve.

The group only then respond with their ideas for you for the next 45 minutes. You are not allowed to speak while they brainstorm on your behalf; no-one is permitted to make a negative statement.

All information generated by the group is recorded and the members are able to access the information on the Network’s website.

These meetings successfully develop new business concepts and career opportunities for members who are experiencing mind blocks, difficult challenges alone in business or in corporate positions.

Many new businesses have been developed and existing businesses expanded because of the fabulous ideas shared by the members. These “Forums” are a Win/Win for everyone.

Members’ Showcase Days: Exhibitions and discussion panels assist members to promote their business services and products to other members and the general public.

Members’ Advertising Services: AEWN members can advertise on the Network’s website providing members with the opportunity to promote their business products and services to other members and the general public.

Employment Referral Service: A FREE employment service is offered to members who are looking for work. Members are required to keep the Adelaide – Head Office, up to date with their employment situation. AEWN maintain an inexpensive search facility to corporations seeking women in management.

Corporate Membership: As a corporate member your company has the privilege of using the AEWN national employment search facility free of charge to find suitable staff or board members.

AEWN Sponsors: The sponsoring companies are the Network’s partners in business. AEWN works with its sponsors on joint activities and promotions. The members of the Network are encouraged to use the sponsors’ services and buy their products. Sponsors’ representatives are invited to speak at AEWN meetings.

Personalised AEWN Business Cards: The Network helps members to open new doors for business with their own AEWN business cards. An inexpensive card gives each member an opportunity to have her own name, business name, phone number, email address and business website on the cards. It’s an excellent way to promote your own business, while introducing new contacts to the AEWN network membership. We have found members like to buy from fellow members so the more members you introduce the more business you will generate for your own enterprise.

Tomorrow’s Executive Workshops: An incentive started in 1988 by AEWN members who were concerned about school leavers needing help to enter the workforce. The five-day programme focuses on: conflict resolution, confidence and self-esteem building, resume writing, telephone and email marketing and work shadowing. This program has been overwhelmingly successful with young people gaining confidence, discovering personal skills, finding AEWN mentors, and even being employed by AEWN members with their own businesses or working in management.

AEWN Scholarship: Introduced in 1989 to assist young people 18 or over, wishing to attend our Tomorrow’s Executive Workshops and Business Forums. To qualify for a part or full scholarship a student must obtain written recommendation from his or her school principal.

Trainers, Speakers & Authors: AEWN is keen to assist you in your careers. We will help you publish your books and training manuals and we will also promote you as a speaker, author or trainer to our national membership. You must be a financial member of AEWN to gain our promotional assistance.

Book Library & E-Books: AEWN keeps a library of members’ printed books, as well as a database of members’ e-books. Members with published books submit a copy of their books to AEWN when they join the Network. We are happy to promote the publications to other members.

Real Estate Assistance: AEWN Founder and President, Lucille Orr, has her own fully licensed real estate business AWARE Properties Pty. Ltd.
