A NOTE TO READERS

I’ve sat and pondered, walked around and wondered, whether to write this book in a completely impersonal voice — not mentioning myself in any way, just giving the principles and practices of modern magic — or whether to include the stories from my life, and the lives of others, in a more personal way.

Over the years, a lot of people have told me that the personal stories I tell help them learn to work their own magic more easily, so I’ve decided to include them — but they’re not essential. None of these words are that important — it’s what you do with the words that makes all the difference in your life.

If you don’t like any parts of this work, skip to another part. There is a vast amount of material here, and not all of it will appeal to everyone. I write in different voices at different times, and you may prefer some voices over others. My daytime writing is very different from the words that drift along in the middle of the night. Don’t feel you have to read this whole book straight through. Roam around in it, do a few practices, and find what works for you.

Take what you need,and leave the rest.
