Driving back to see Roz two weeks later, I felt excited at finding out how she had progressed. She had seen something that most people think would be impossible to see – she had seen her first auras. I hoped too that her first feelings of belief had been stirred. I felt pleased with myself that I had found a way to teach her how to see.

I arrived at the cottage and Roz gave me a progress report – how she had seen first the marmalade cat’s aura and then Wesley’s. I was pleased, but also amazed at how quickly and easily she had taken the teaching on. I had confirmation: if you persevere, you can develop and use your sixth sense. Our journey seemed to be gathering a pace of its own.

‘She’s got it very quickly, hasn’t she Eric?’ I said when Roz was out of the room.

‘She may have been sceptical but she has worked at being open-minded. And, at this point, that is all that is needed.’

‘Is it always going to be this easy?’ I asked.

‘When you find the right words, there’s no reason why not.’

With this, I knew Eric had no intention of giving me the right words but I felt comforted. Perhaps I did have the ability to be a teacher, after all.

Roz came back into the room with two steaming mugs of tea. I knew what we had to do next.

‘Okay, you’ve seen auras, now I want you to do something different with this ability. Remember what I said, the aura is an energy – like heat, like the wind, like electricity. I wanted you to see it first so you know it is there. But now I want you to feel it.’

Roz was looking at me expectantly – as if I was indeed her teacher. I was getting caught up in her excitement, buzzing at the thought of sharing my world with her. I felt that I had spent 20 years telling people ‘there is a magic kingdom’ and now, for the first time, I was able to show someone my special place and share the wonder.
