Paradigms - The Mind on Autopilot

Оглавление

So let’s get started…

We are looking at maybe the most controlling factor of how things are actually happening to us in our life: thought patterns or paradigms. You think you don’t have any? Well, have a look at driving your car for instance. When you first started out learning how to drive it was difficult to keep all those many different tasks under control, and it was all but a fluent process then, remember? How is that now? Are you still thinking about what you are doing or are you actually running on autopilot (while talking on the phone and sipping on a cup of coffee)? If you don’t drive a car look at any other more or less complex task you fulfill effortlessly without having to think about, like tasks you had to learn when starting a new job. Or even more simple: look at the routine at a whole, day in day out. It is the routine of anything that we do that we owe our results to. Simply put, we get what we get because we do what we do. And if we don’t change that we continue to get the same results. Those trained actions are nothing but a pile of habits, and it is those habits that run our life, yet it is us who are the main instigators when it comes to programming them into our subconscious mind in the first place.

But why is it then that we aren’t where we wish to be? Why is it that we say one thing and yet believe another?

Let’s have a closer look at that: from the early age onward we are receiving “education” in the form of believes, attitudes and expectations, which is brought to us by our parents, friends, teachers, colleges, employers, just to name a few. We get told what is good and what is bad based on other people’s experiences and their paradigms. Our culture is founded on it and according the behavioral patterns we learned we react to the world and see what we conditioned ourselves to see. How is that possible? Well, imagine the mind to be the control station where all the decision making is taking place, and the subconscious mind the place where we store all the information we receive. The decision making however, can only be based on what information is available, and so the mind will continue to fall back into old behavioral patterns, unless we change the information on the hard drive!

The good news is that we can let go of unwanted paradigms and plant new ones, and we actually do so constantly, simply by accepting a thought to be true for us! The world around us appears to be changing then, although really all we do is change the way we look at it. And before we get to grasp what happened the game has changed. We meet new people, become interested in information we didn’t look at before, and with it get the ball rolling onto an exciting new path.

Again, because this one is important: any thought we continuously impress on our subconscious mind over and over, becomes an integral part of our personality and wants to express itself through feelings and actions without any conscious assistance until replaced. The subconscious mind takes the orders so to say and operates in an orderly manner the way we feed it. It neither differentiates nor judges and therefore does not know of any limitations by itself. It accepts everything we feed it with and has no power to reject.

The conscious mind is the part of us that thinks and has a choice. Here all our limitations, pleasures, and pains are either originated or accepted from outside. The thoughts we choose eventually determine the results.

What I have in mind for you now is to carefully examine your beliefs, one at a time, and this is best done by writing them down. This takes courage, because you may find that some of those beliefs lack foundation and may be absurd. By going through this process you make conscious what has been long stored in your subconscious mind for automated reactions. Watch your feelings while doing so: if it feels good, keep it, otherwise let go of your attachment to it. Once clear about the paradigms you wish to keep you can take the sheet of paper on which you noted the ones you want to let go off and throw it away. This is a very special moment, the first step to free yourself and you are welcome to feel the excitement about the new path you just stepped on.

It may look like this:

Paradigms to let go of

 I don’t have enough money

One does not talk about money

One has to be born into a rich family to be rich

New paradigms

I always create an income level to support the lifestyle I wish to live

I feel very confident and secure to talk about money

I decide how much money I want to earn

You are encouraged to look at all aspects of life, like family, relationships, lifestyle, spiritualism, career, friendship and health; money is just one of them. The new paradigms want to be short, precise, in the present tense and expressed positively (see above). Be honest with yourself, and above everything:

Accept that you are successful and unlimited by nature.
