EASTWARD OF EDEN
ОглавлениеAdam and Eve Driven out of the Garden
There's a road so long and winding.
Though the trees are green and shading,
And where this road is leading is quite unknown to me.
But I know its east of Eden, and I walk along here weeping
For the memories beset me of the garden I was leaving.
It's so lonely to be exiled
But the flaming sword went swinging,
There could be no turning back.
--Ruth Kay,
Gen 2:7 - 15 And the LORD God formed man OF the dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living soul. And the LORD God planted a garden eastward in Eden; and there he put the man whom he had formed. And out of the ground made the LORD God to grow every tree that is pleasant to the sight, and good for food; the tree of life also in the midst of the garden, and the tree of knowledge of good and evil.
And a river went out of Eden to water the garden; and from thence it was parted, and became into four heads. The name of the first is Pison: that is it which compasseth the whole land of Havilah, where there is gold; And the gold of that land is good: there is bdellium and the onyx stone. And the name of the second river is Gihon: the same is it that compasseth the whole land of Ethiopia. And the name of the third river is Hiddekel: that is it which goeth toward the east of Assyria. And the fourth river is Euphrates.
And the LORD God took the man, and put him into the garden of Eden to dress it and to keep it.
Michelangelo Buonarroti-La tentazione di Adamo ed Eva
These verses give us a glimpse into the perfect living environment of Adam and Eve before the Fall. God provided everything necessary for their sustenance and enjoyment --food, water, and other natural resources. And God gave man the responsibility to manage these resources. Originally God had intended humanity to live forever, but after the fall, Adam and Eve were prevented from eating of the Tree of Life so they would not live forever in their sinful condition.
