LOOKING A GIFT PARAKEET IN THE BEAK

Оглавление

Giving a parakeet as a gift isn’t a great idea unless you have discussed it with the recipient and the gift isn’t a surprise. You may think that you’re giving a parakeet, but what you’re really giving is a 12-year or more responsibility with a bird that the person may not like — and vice versa. Take into consideration that the person may have wanted to choose the parakeet on his own. Maybe you got him a blue parakeet and he wanted a yellow one. A gift certificate to a pet shop is a better option if the recipient has indicated that they really want a parakeet.

Remember: Holidays are the worst time to give a live animal to anyone. Holidays are traditionally busy times with lots of bustle and activity, and the poor parakeet may get lost in the shuffle. The holidays are a good time to buy bird books (such as this one!) and a gift certificate for a parakeet and the accessories that go with it.

Unlike some other species, parakeets rarely kill one another, but it can happen, especially if there are competing egg-laying females in housing that’s too small. Parakeets who don’t get along that are housed in too small of a space can also turn deadly. A new parakeet added to a cage or aviary with existing birds can also become a victim. You have to watch your birds very carefully in these situations and have separate housing ready in case of an issue.
