The symbol ⊥ placed over a vowel indicates the long sound of that vowel shortened, or without the vanish. It is used in unaccented syllables, as in sĕn´[+a]te, [+e]-vĕnt´, [+i]-dē´a, [+o]-bey´, [+u]-nīte´.
