Dionne nodded, but she didn’t move.

Immanuel didn’t either. Couldn’t. Felt as if his feet were glued to the ground. Their eyes met, held for a beat. Lust exploded inside his body, threatened to consume him. Their connection was undeniable, but it was nothing he’d ever act upon. He’d been burned by love before, betrayed by a woman he’d thought was his soul mate, and he wasn’t going down that road again.
