Fig. 6.12 Laryngoscopy. 1. Midline insertion of the laryngoscope blade may result in the tongue obscuring the glottis. 2. The laryngoscope blade is inserted on the right side of the patient’s mouth, displacing the tongue to the left and exposing the glottis. 3. The patient’s head is at the level of the operator’s umbilicus. The endotracheal tube is directed immediately behind the epiglottis and anterior to the upper esophageal inlet.
