“WOW! Did you make that?”
that’s the spontaneous reaction to hand-made jewelry. And the friendship bracelet has long been one of the trendiest and most popular fashion accessories among the young and not-so-young, treasured as much for its cult status as for its sentimental value as a gift.
According to tradition, the recipient of the bracelet is supposed to make a wish. This tradition probably has its origins in summer camp—a time and place where you make a new friend, exchange a gift, and make a wish that you’ll meet again next year. These days you might see a bracelet in the colors of a favorite team, maybe peeking from under an elegant businessman’s suit sleeve, or restyled with precious beads and charms into a personalized glam version, to adorn the wrist of a fashionista.
The origin of the friendship bracelet is closely tied to the technique involved in making it--Macramé. A true textile-making art practiced throughout the world, this technique involves braiding and hand-knotting a series of threads in such a way as to create rows of knots that, together, form beautiful ornaments with patterns.
This technique probably owes its success to the fact that it’s easy to do and requires no special tools. All you need is a flat work surface, colored threads, and the desire to wear something that is original, unique, and hand-made.
This kit includes a guide for creating 12 of the most classic bracelet styles, along with visual tutorials that illustrate the main steps involved in making each style. It also includes 14 skeins of colorful embroidery floss so you can practice different knots and create your own unique bracelets. Demonstrations on the accompanying video show you the process of making each bracelet and applying the main types of finishing touches.
What You’ll Need:
Skeins of 6-ply Embroidery Floss (not included in e-book)
Scissors
Adhesive tape to secure the threads onto the work surface
PLEASE NOTE: The colors of the skeins provided in your kit may not be an exact match to the colors shown in the pages of this booklet. For exact matches, please purchase the recommended colors noted for each project. DMC® floss is available at most fabric and craft stores.
