THE BOMB

Оглавление

A lot of thought has gone into the bomb Japie Kok is building. The planners have to consider many factors. It is known that the target is in another country and is heavily guarded, and so a special-forces operation is out of the question, although the sovereignty of neighbouring countries has long been treated with contempt. The problem is that the specific location of this target is unknown. This presents a conundrum: how do you get the target to meet the travelling bomb?

The address of the person to whom the bomb is to be sent in Lusaka comes from a letter written by that person. A letter intercepted by the security police. This was a lucky break. Weeks of listening to the occasional telephone calls of the target have been fruitless. He has carefully kept his location a secret. In the words of a senior policeman ‘. . . his telephone security [is] very good’ – there is nothing to be gleaned. But now there is an address. A personal address, a private post box. Appropriately so, for there are some very personal scores to be settled.
