FOREWORD
ОглавлениеAir Transport in Canada has progressed at such an astonishing pace during the past two decades that the fabulous era of the pioneer bush pilot already seems to belong to another age. Today, as modern airliners drone across the vast hinterlands extending from the end-of-steel to the Arctic Ocean, much of the early adventure has disappeared from northern skies. The dramatic testing of human ingenuity and skill against the fierce elements of the northland has been succeeded by the less eventful, more prosaic conquest of these same elements by precision instrument flying, by modern airline equipment and technique.
In our preoccupation with this new phase, we are in danger of forgetting the heritage of the pioneer period. It is indeed fortunate that a factual and interesting record of Canadian bush pilot exploits has now become available. Written by an experienced author, with the unique advantage of first-hand knowledge and experience, this book is a most important contribution to our air history. It is also a fascinating narrative.
