Belt of Truth-Breastplate of Righteousness

Оглавление

Ephesians 6:14

“Stand therefore , having your loins girt about with truth , and having on the breastplate of righteousness”

A belt, or "girdle" as it is called in the KJV, implies something by which you are bound. A bond of truth, as it were. Let truth encircle you, let your yea be yea and your nay be nay. The girdle of truth protects you from the waist down. Here is what TRUTH- alētheia means:

reality, a fact, a certainty

free from pretense, falsehood, deceit, not fictitious

Adherence to what is true will protect. For instance, be mindful of what is truly good for you and eat only that which is truly good. That will protect your stomach and the rest of your digestive system. Truth will protect your loins; the region we refer to as our “privates.”

(Gen 35:11)

And God said unto him, I [am] God Almighty : be fruitful and multiply ; a nation and a company of nations shall be of thee, and kings shall come out of thy loins ;

What is the “truth” concerning your loins? Sex is reserved for marriage and only within the marriage. Marriage is the bond. Be free from Untruths such as pretense, falsehood, deceit, or fictitious relationships.

BREASTPLATE of RIGHTEOUSNESS -

Being in right standing with God protects your heart. In a broad sense: it is the state of being as we ought to be, righteousness, the condition acceptable to God.

The breastplate protects you from the waist up to your neck. Your heart is protected and God's got your back.

How do we attain righteousness? This is what Matthew Henry says about that:

Matthew Henry's Concise Commentary

3:21-26 Must guilty man remain under wrath? Is the wound for ever incurable? No; blessed be God, there is another way laid open for us. This is the righteousness of God; righteousness of his ordaining, and providing, and accepting. It is by that faith which has Jesus Christ for its object; an anointed Saviour, so Jesus Christ signifies. Justifying faith respects Christ as a Saviour, in all his three anointed offices, as Prophet, Priest, and King; trusting in him, accepting him, and cleaving to him: in all these, Jews and Gentiles are alike welcome to God through Christ. There is no difference, his righteousness is upon all that believe; not only offered to them, but put upon them as a crown, as a robe. It is free grace, mere mercy; there is nothing in us to deserve such favours. It comes freely unto us, but Christ bought it, and paid the price. And faith has special regard to the blood of Christ, as that which made the atonement. God, in all this, declares his righteousness. It is plain that he hates sin, when nothing less than the blood of Christ would satisfy for it. And it would not agree with his justice to demand the debt, when the Surety has paid it, and he has accepted that payment in full satisfaction.

We can't earn it; we can't buy it, but righteousness is impugned upon us through our faith in Jesus Christ. Without faith it is impossible to please God.

Hebrews 11:1-6

1 NOW FAITH is the assurance (the confirmation, the title deed) of the things [we] hope for, being the proof of things [we] do not see and the conviction of their reality [faith perceiving as real fact what is not revealed to the senses].

2 For by [faith--trust and holy fervor born of faith] the men of old had divine testimony borne to them and obtained a good report.

3 By faith we understand that the worlds [during the successive ages] were framed (fashioned, put in order, and equipped for their intended purpose) by the word of God, so that what we see was not made out of things which are visible.

4 [Prompted, actuated] by faith Abel brought God a better and more acceptable sacrifice than Cain, because of which it was testified of him that he was righteous [that he was upright and in right standing with God], and God bore witness by accepting and acknowledging his gifts. And though he died, yet [through the incident] he is still speaking.

5 Because of faith Enoch was caught up and transferred to heaven, so that he did not have a glimpse of death; and he was not found, because God had translated him. For even before he was taken to heaven, he received testimony [still on record] that he had pleased and been satisfactory to God.

6 But without faith it is impossible to please and be satisfactory to Him. For whoever would come near to God must [necessarily] believe that God exists and that He is the rewarder of those who earnestly and diligently seek Him. (Amplified)
