Chapter 3: Sparkles In The Night

Оглавление

It’s a cool, summer night as the waves

break in the Aceustik Sea.

Eeala yawns in her beach hammock,

lying under a tree.

The hammock begins to move

as Eeala jumps and looks at the ground.

She startled and sees Serphani’s smile

which turns her fright right around.

Serphani says, “Eeala, are you awake?

There’s something weird in the sea.”

Eeala says, “It’s past my bedtime.

Whatever it is, just let it be.”

Serphani says, “No, Eeala, you have to see it.

It sounds sooo weird.”

“My mommy said I can sleep over

so the coast is already cleared.”

Eeala turns and tosses in her hammock,

thinking deeply about her friend.

Serphani pushes her again, making

those deep thoughts end.

Eeala says, “Okay. Okay. Just give me

a few moments of peace.”

Serphani replies, “Don’t be a grump.

This creature’s whining just won’t cease.”

Eeala turns in surprise, “What creature?”

Serphani walks away and says under her breath,

“Never mind. Maybe I’ll just call next time I want

to reach her."

Eeala yells, “Wait. Wait. I’m sorry.

I just woke up, and I had a long day.”

“I tried to take a nap earlier,

but a creature woke me up in a similar way.”

Serphani asks, “Oh no, did you hear a splash?”

Eeala yells, “Yeah! I did, and it sounded like

a boom and a really large crash.”

“I knew it!” Serphani says.

“I knew it wasn’t just me.”

“I looked into the ocean,

and the mysterious creature started to flee.

“It just keeps wailing.”

Eeala says, “Oh, maybe it’s sick and it’s

ailing.”

Serphani says. “I know,

and we don’t know how long it’s going

to stay there.”

“Maybe we can just scout it out and see.

Tell our parents if it gives us a scare.”

Eeala ponders for a moment and says,

“Okay, then let’s go.”

As Serphani leads the way down the shoreline,

under the moon’s glow.

And in the sparkle of the night,

they see a weird shimmer in the sea.

It holds an interesting color

which glows brighter than anything

known to be.

They see it’s large form

and hear its soft, subtle cry.

As it splashes in the water

and sometimes peeks out a glowing eye.

Eeala yells, “Woah, that thing is big!”

Serphani says, “I know, maybe it’s stuck

on a rig.”

Eeala says, “I think I should call my dad.”

Serphani says, “Don’t worry,

it’s so far away and can’t be that bad.”

They both hear its cry

and wonder what’s wrong with it.

Eeala says, “If we go back and our clothes are wet,

my parents will have a fit.”

Serphani says, “Stop worrying.

I think you’re scaring me and him.”

As the creature splashes around,

fighting hard to stay afloat and swim.

It’s splashing around prompts Eeala to ask,

“What should we do?

What should we do?”

Serphani says, “I don’t know,

that’s simply why I brought you.”

Eeala says, “Go get my dad.

We can use his boat and help it out,

maybe it’s really stuck.

And hey, maybe with our help,

this creature will live,

with some good luck.”

Serphani agreed

as she runs off toward Eeala’s home.

Eeala remains at the shoreline,

pacing where this creature likes to swim and roam.

She can hear it tug on an anchor,

as it lets out a louder cry.

With its glowing scales that shine a bit brighter,

as the hurt creature begins to float and sigh.

Eeala seeks guidance in the sky

before stepping foot into the ocean.

Her heart begins to race,

and starts to fill with anxious emotion.

As she gets closer to the water creature

and feels a fin lying next to her feet.

The creature rubs its fin on her leg,

she feels its scales and warm heat.

Then in a sudden moment,

the fin grabs her and takes her deep

into the sea.

The creature tries to drag her down as Eeala

starts to fight its grasp to flee.

Eeala holds her breath,

as the creature blows bubbles around her face.

She continues to hold her breath,

until it says “Open up, you can breathe in

this space.”

Eeala listens and opens her mouth to breath,

and is shocked as she breathes in cool air.

She looks around at the deep sea

and the sight of a creature, so rare.

As Eeala says, “A water dragon.”
