Obligors.

Chapter Three.

The two Moons were moving through the night sky. One above the other. The reflections from both made the skies illuminate. In a rare display of different colors; red, and blue shimmers. This was a very infrequent event. Fergus was fortunate enough to witness some falling spheres. All being of beautiful rainbow colors, which was emerging from the Moon’s lights. They appeared to be falling only a short distance away.

Fergus knew, once the falling spheres touch the ground, they would become cold. They would then change into ‘Obligors’. The Obligors received their name because of the word ‘Obligor’. It was when one takes on an obligation to another where they form a pact. So, on discovering an Obligor, they form a life contract to those who find them.

Fergus took a burning stake from the cottages fire. So, he could see where he was walking throughout the cold, balmy darkness. He rushed in haste from the cottage with much excitement. Running as fast as his legs would take him. While also hoping no-one else saw the spheres falling in the night’s darkness.

It would have to have been a short time when he reached, where he thought the Obligors may have landed. He stood still for a moment while wiping the sweat from his brow. The evening was not as dark as usual, with the two Moons high in the night sky. But for some reason. Fergus felt as though someone may have been watching his movements. Yet, this did not discourage Fergus from his search. Unfortunately, after searching for some time, Fergus found nothing. This left him to feel gloomy and disappointed. He then began to track back to his cottage.

On his walk back amidst the night, Fergus now began to feel alone. He was thankful with the feeling of him being watched, was passing. Something more began to concern Fergus though. He could hear a rustle in the shrubs ahead. Again, this made him question how someone may still be watching him, causing much concern. But deep down, he knew how the boundaries of the Gully were some of the safest you could walk. Any time of the day or night. And after all, Fergus did not see a soul. No-one at all.

It was fortunate Fergus knew the lands like the back of his hand. This found him to feel comforted, knowing he would not get lost in the night’s darkness. A darkness that left his imagination to see him being ravaged by any brute Beast, or an unknown creature.

Fergus heard another spine-chilling noise. There was another rustle in the shrubs. Fergus froze immediately. Then in surprise Czar ran up his leg. Fergus was so overcome with fear, so when it was only Czar who was rustling about, he felt he was over reacting again. With it only being Czar, Fergus felt very relieved. Placing Czar into his right back pocket of his pants, he began to walk back to his cottage. Yet, it was Czars behavior which seemed unusual, causing Fergus to come to a halt. Czar ran from Fergus and into some bushy shrubs. Fergus followed. After tripping on some twigs and falling over twice, Fergus saw something. He could not believe his eyes. There were sparkling balls of few colors.

Fergus thought to himself how these could be the Obligor he approached. The closer he got to the Obligor’s, the more beautiful they appeared. He was becoming mesmerized at their beauty. There were three. One Purple, one Green, and one Gold. He picked up a stick to poke them with, in case there was something about them that may cause harm. He sighed in relief when nothing transpired. Taking a handkerchief from his pocket, he picked one Obligor up after the other. He placed them into his shirt pocket under his woolen jumper, and close to his heart. The handkerchief would have to be enough, Fergus thought. Because he had nothing more to place his Obligors. Then not forgetting Czar. Fergus placed him back into his pants back pocket. And in anticipation, he walked a brisk pace back to his cottage.

The Obligors would see him with all the riches he could fathom. Men would lose their minds for such beauty, Fergus thought to himself.

Upon getting closer to his cottage, Fergus put the fire out on his twig. It was close to burning out anyhow. But Fergus’s most concern was to not cause any unwanted interest from the Gully folk.

Even with all the luck Fergus thought he had that evening, he still bumped into a neighbor. It scared the life from Fergus. His neighbor came from the darkness. He did not trust his neighbor. Even his neighbors name sound untrustworthy to Fergus. His neighbor liked to be called, Sir Trust. Everyone knew he was not a Sir, but who were to argue.

“What are you doing lad?” asked Sir Trust.

At that moment. Fergus was left wanting forgiveness from any divine after replying with a white lie. “Nothing Sir, heading home after looking for Czar,” and he pulled Czar out of his back pocket.

“You seem a little uneasy. Are you sure there is nothing you are not telling me?” asked Sir Trust as he leant forward to pat Fergus on his shoulder.

“Nothing Sir,” said Fergus. Stepping away from Sir Trust while hoping there was not a glow coming from under his jumper.

“You should go back to your cottage now. You know with your Grandfather not around anymore, you need to take more care,” Sir Trust suggested.

Fergus knew Sir Trusts concerns were but in vain. The Gully was a very safe place to be. But Fergus went along with Sir Trust, and replied. “Yes Sir, I will go back to my cottage at once.” As he placed Czar back into his back pocket and moved on saying not another word.

Entering his now dismal cottage. Fergus placed his Obligor’s onto his pillow. He was feeling excited with his find. Fergus had heard talk from the Gully elders about Obligors. They believed if you can gather the rare Obligors. You should place them into a dark hidden sack. While you hold them close to your heart, this giving the Obligor their breath of life. The breath of life would allow them to form into a powerful force. Though they were not a threat, or able to influence what the Gods held for the natural man. Fergus’s mind was working overtime. But instead of resting, he decided to see if his Grandfather’s books would be able to explain in detail. What the Obligors could offer or allow.

Grandfather kept a book somewhere on Obligor’s.” Fergus believed.

Scanning the bookshelf. Fergus found books on, Geology, Architecture, and even Musicology, to name a few. Finding himself scanning many more books. When to his excitement, he found a smaller sized book. With chivalrous writing etched into its hard cover. Under the dust its title said, ‘Obligors’. Fergus felt destiny was unfolding before his eyes. Placing the book under his armpit, he climbed from the book shelf.

Sitting at the table, he took a glance at his night’s finding. Then his attention moved back to the book again. The book was like no other. He noticed when scanning through the pages. There were no pictures, but cursive writing.

“This could be a long night,” Fergus thought to himself.

Scouring the index, it read; Chapter One; what are Obligors amazing for? Chapter Two; What will different colored Obligors do?

Fergus decided from that moment how his interest would be on the first two chapters. These would teach Fergus exactly what he thought he would need to know. Fergus noticed how the darkness settled. With unwanted eerie shadows stretched across his cottage walls. To counter his uncomfortableness. He stoked a roaring fire and with this he could see what he was reading. And this then also caused the disturbing shadows to disappear. Sitting back at the table. Fergus began to read; Chapter One. It was not till the middle of the first chapter though. When Fergus began to read what Obligors were actually amazing for.

Fergus read, ‘one must keep them close to their heart; they thrive on positive thoughts. And they are in touch with forces you do not always experience. It is from the Heavens that they get their mystical energies. Allowing them to thrive beyond what any man could fathom’.

Fergus felt taken aback at what he read. He did question though. Whether he would be able to gain the knowledge overnight to be worthy of the Obligors. Even though Fergus thought he should read about the Heavens that may influence the Obligors, sometime later. He was becoming fascinated as he read further. Examining page after page. Fergus read. Chapter Two; explaining the different colored Obligors. The different colors hold a different description. Of what each Obligor’s mystical functions perform.

Fergus began with the Purple Obligor. It read; a Purple Obligor will give you the strength of ten robust men at once when you believe you need it. Fergus thought of ways this Obligor would help him. There was not a thought where he believed he would ever need such strength. He then began to read about the Green Obligor. The Green Obligor was very confronting. It read how it would protect the bearer from demise, but only once. Again, Fergus contemplated how he would ever use this Obligor. He was certain he would never allow himself to be confronted, or threatened by demise? So, with that thought, Fergus did not believe he would ever have to use his Green Obligor either. Even though, Fergus felt confident in owning this Obligor. Because it may be a one-off promise of life. Fergus then began to read about the Gold Obligor. This was a very intriguing color. The Gold Obligor read how it was one which would repel any undesirable. Or endangering intentions wished to the Obligors finder. After some time, Fergus’s head was beginning to feel dazed from all that he had been reading. Even though resting was not an option. Because he was still feeling somewhat excited with his find.

Gathering his Obligors, he placed them into a dark pouch. And then placed them into his shirt pocket, under his jumper, and close to his heart. Laying on his bed in all his excitement. Fergus forgot all about the mysterious book; To many lands and back again. Fergus had become, so tired that he was no longer able to keep his eyes open. Finding the time, he changed into his night clothes where he rested and soon fell into a deep sleep. It was his dreams throughout the night though. Those which caused him to toss and turn with disturbing images. It was the Obligors.

The Purple Obligor turned into a misty representation of some kind of being. Out of nowhere, an image of a Purple Lady formed.

She spoke of warm words. “I come from the Purple Obligor. I am the ‘Arora Enchantress’. I will give you mighty strength”. She then frizzled into nothing.

Then it was the Green Obligor. It also formed into a misty representation of some kind of being. And from nowhere, an image of a Green Lady presented herself, “I come from the Green Obligor. I am the ‘Allura Sorceress’, who will protect you from demise. Use this wisely. I can only assist once," She then also frizzled into nothing.

And then, it was the Gold Obligor. This time, Fergus saw a frizzle with no image. But a voice that said, “I will drive back any undesirable. Or endangering intentions wished upon you.” That was all Fergus heard from the Gold Obligor. Fergus deemed he would in no way, attract any such event. With this thought, Fergus was not at all disturbed by the Gold Obligors words.

Once the Obligor’s supremacies passed. It did not take long for Fergus to fall into a deep sleep until early morning came. What Fergus was not aware of though? Was how something was taking place in the unknown, and this would challenge. Fergus’s very determination, motivation, and self-control. Like he could not have ever dreamt of.

As Fergus began to open his eye’s the following morning, there were knocks on the door. It startled him. This time he was able to sense Quinn’s presence leaving him feeling comforted.

“Fergus,” called Quinn.

Fergus rubbed his eyes and then called back to tell Quinn to enter.

Quinn asked why Fergus was still asleep when the sky had already been arisen for almost, two shades of the telling tree. The telling tree was an ordinary tree. But the people followed its shadows to tell when it was morning, midday, and late midday. Each of these were five shadows apart. Morning showed when the sun rose from the East. Its shadow would stretch as far to the left. And when evening came, the shadow would stretch as far to the right when facing North. Through winter though, the time would be told by guessing. It was a very unreliable way of telling the time, but winter did not happen often in the Gully. As for telling the time at night, the Gully people followed the two Moons moving across the nights sky.

It took little time for Fergus to recall his dreams. The Obligors auras; the Arora Enchantress, and the Allura Sorceress. Fergus reflected on what the book explained. And then how the women Obligors matched what the book described. The book though did not explain how the Obligors would actually form into a women’s being, or any kind of existence. Fergus rationalized all that the women presented. He wanted to tell Quinn all he had experienced with the Obligors.

Fergus first began to tell Quinn of his very dreams. He asked what her thoughts were. Upon hearing his story Quinn did agree his dreams where interesting indeed.

Quinn began, “Do you remember when my Great Uncle used to tell us stories when he passed through our Gully?”

“Yes” answered Fergus.

Quinn continued. “Well, Uncle would tell how only a sanctified person were blessed with Obligors. Seeing them to be offered by the Heavens. Uncle said; only one who’s fate may experience challenges beyond man’s limits. Would be given Obligors to assist in their life’s journey. It was also said, only a man, or women of purity were able to own the Obligors. And no man should tell of their find of the Obligors, because it would jinx the bearer to an undesirable death.”

With that very thought, Fergus wished he had read the book on Obligor’s in more depth. Though for Fergus, Quinn could not have told of the Obligors any sooner. Especially as they could jinx him if disclosed. He decided at that very moment, how he would not say a word of his Obligors. With the Obligors, Fergus even began to consider how he may be a chosen one, or even someone special of some sort. Wanting to stay grounded. He still believed the finding of the Obligors. Along with his experience with the Elements and the Map. That there was definitely something mythic, or divine unfolding, and taking place. He could not but feel excited and apprehensive at the same moment. He then remembered how he was about to set off on his Maps journey.

Quinn began to sense something was bothering Fergus. She felt she had to ask. “Is there something you are not telling me Fergus?”

But when Fergus began to deny anything which he did not now wish to disclose, he began to hiccup. This only caused Quinn to become suspicious.

“No, there is nothing I am not telling you,” he was able to say between hiccups. Coughing five times to clear them. He began to question himself by asking, “Did she want to cause him an undesirable death. By trying to get him to disclose his Obligors? She is not thinking.” All Fergus could do was to ponder the undesirable death of someone who tells of owning Obligors.

“I do not believe you, but if that is how you wish to be, then fine," said Quinn. She walked out the cottage door, upset like never before.

With this, Fergus was not going to say a word to a single sole of his dreams and the owning of Obligors. His thoughts then turned to his Grandfather. He remembered how his Grandfather spoke one early morning, many sleeps ago. He explained how man would slay for Obligors with madness in his eyes. He also remembered how his Grandfather told. If a man or women were not chosen by the Heavens. And he or she bore an Obligor in their possession, then he or she would lose his, or her mind to lunacy. The torment would leave them to take their own life. Such an event had not occurred to Fergus leaving him to feel ever more blessed. Fergus decided how he was now responsible for the Obligors. And he was beginning to believe they were given by the Heavens. Only, Fergus was yet to search deeper. About why he was able to keep the Obligors in his possession, while not experiencing any form of madness. But being blessed with Obligors left him feeling to be a lucky, and also somewhat, ‘Chosen’ person. Even if he did come from a little cottage and in a Gully of nowhere.

From being on his own, Fergus could not but shake his conscience. He was feeling somewhat dreadful. The reason being, was how he was holding a secret from Quinn about his Obligors. He could not remember a time where he had ever kept a secret from her.

After some time, Quinn stormed back in through Fergus’s cottage door. With tears in her eyes she said, “If you are not telling me something; but wait, you are leaving today. But wait, if you are not telling me something, I will never forgive myself; if, you know, something happens to you.”

Fergus did not want to harm himself with disclosing the owning of his Obligors. So, he decided to leave Quinn on a need to know basis. But then after Quinn expressed how she was feeling. Fergus realized how big a deal it was to set off on his journey that very day.

“What about the mysterious book you were talking about. You know the strange winds and the hidden Map”, Quinn changed topics.

“Yes,” said Fergus. He could be a lad of little words at times.

“Well, what are your plans? Are you still planning on leaving the only ever home you know?” Quinn continued.

“I am not sure what my plan is. I guess I should begin to pack my sack if I am to leave today.” Fergus replied.

Fergus began to think of the Map. Remembering he placed it into a sack under his feathered mattress. He moved to his bed to retrieve the Map. Fergus also thought of the Obligors tucked into his shirt. And under his jumper while still hoping they would not glow. Fergus adjusted his Obligors, so Quinn would not see, and then he took hold of his Map. Unwrapping it on the kitchen table, together Quinn and Fergus scanned over the lands. And it was then Fergus noticed how it showed much beauty towards life.

“What do you make of it?” Fergus asked.

“By looking at the trails, it shows you will be gone for a quite a long time,” said Quinn under a soft voice.

“Do you think you understand the Elements?” Quinn asked. “I mean Earth, Water, Fire, and Wind. And also, what is with the Fifth Creation Element in the center of all Elements. Look how it bears the Earths direction. What do you think, because I do not know what to make of the Map?” Quinn replied.

Quinn then continued, “If you look at the mountains for the Earth Element it shows a Women’s Image. The rivers and ocean for the Water Element. There was again, what appeared to be the same Women’s Image. Then the Volcanoes for the Fire Element, and the Air Element, all bore the same Women’s Image. Not forgetting the Fifth Creation Element. This Element; did not have a Women’s Image,” Quinn took a breath.

“Must we look for what these Elements mean. Grandfather’s book shelf. Should have books which tell of these Elements,” Fergus suggested to Quinn. With enthusiasm in his voice.

Together, they began to scour the book shelf for anything which resembled the images seen on the Map.

“Hey Quinn,” said Fergus with much interest, “There is a book here called, the ‘Dictionary of Elements.’”

“Awesome, quick show me,” Quinn replied.

Fergus climbed down from the book shelf and sat at the table with the Dictionary of Elements in front of him.

“This could be the most important life event taking place," Fergus thought to himself.

Quinn sat beside Fergus as they began to look at some images.

“Do you think these Elements are random, or do you think there is reason for their placement?” Quinn asked.

“I am not sure, but I am willing to find out,” Fergus replied.

“Here, do you think this could be the Earth Element?” Fergus asked, while pointing to something round, and with mountains and trees on the page.

Together, Fergus and Quinn compared the Map to the Dictionaries Element.

“They match, Splendid,” Quinn shouted.

“Keep it down,” Fergus whispered.

“What does it say?” Quinn asked, so itching to know.

“It says the Earth Element is thought to be a vital, ‘Feminine Element’. She is abundant and unchanging to, birth, life, death, and then rebirth. As for the Earth. It is constant, cultivating, firm, and solid; while portraying strength and endurance.” Fergus finished reading.

“Wow, that was beautiful. Quick, continue, this is so good,” said Quinn. “What is next?”

“The Water Element,” Fergus replied while rushing through the next few pages.

“Here, the Water Element. It is said to be another form of, ‘Feminine Power’. Who is associated with the aspects of cleansing, healing, and purification? She is also linked to understanding one’s emotions and desires,” Fergus finished.

“Quick, find the next,” said Quinn, with much interest. Now being able to forget how Fergus was about to leave the Gully that very day.

Fergus searched through the book with even more interest.

“Here, the Fire Element. It is said to be a liberating, ‘Masculine’, vitality. It says Fire is able to abolish the old and worn, or to mend, this then bringing about new life.” Then finally Fergus moved to the last Element.

The Air Element. It did not say whether it was a Masculine, or a Feminine representation. But it said how it was able to protect all, with the fresh breath of life,” for a moment Fergus could only sit and ponder all he had read.

He then suggested to Quinn how he believed, “They seem to complement each other. People of the lands need all these Elements to find Harmony. How can life live without one? I mean,” Fergus continued on, “Without the Fire Element we would never see new life. And if we did not have the Air Element, we would never have the precious breath of life for all to exist.”

What Fergus did not know though. Was how these Elements would become very important to his future travels.

“The Elements are the most beautiful thing I have ever read. Especially how their synchronization influences our existence. They are perfect and with this life is perfect in all its glory” said Fergus.

Quinn heard Fergus’s words. Perfection to her was somewhat different to what she thought was perfect.

With his deep considerate thoughts, he began to churn inside. He knew it was because of how life was unfolding for him. Fergus thought how he was always able to sense such events. He thought how it was from an early age where he was always in touch with what life offered. It was now that he should listen to his inner self.

Quinn sat and looked to Fergus. “You are forgetting an Element Fergus,” said Quinn.

“What do you mean?” Fergus replied.

“The Fifth Creation Element, the Element of all Elements,” said Quinn.

“Oh, of course,” Fergus opened the book once again searching for the Fifth Element of Creation.

“Here it is. It says that the Fifth Creation Element represents. Mystical reawakening’s, renewal, eternal, and an undying peaceful existence. For all men, women, and children,” Fergus read.

“This sounds to me. How the Fifth Element of Creation awakens all the other Elements,” Quinn explained.
