The GI

ANY AMERICAN who has ever served in Japan, especially those who were in the first contingent to land, must admit that never have so many of one nation known so little about another. Brought up on old Mr. Moto movies, cartoon picture exaggeration, and tenth rate information, the American serviceman was not prepared for his life thousands of miles from home.

Accepting this as a truism, is it not reasonable to assume that the Japanese GI would be no better off? His knowledge of the land of the Yankee was just as limited as was his enemy's of the islands of Japan. Years of propaganda left him ill-prepared to cope with life in the thriving western metropolis of New York.
