ОглавлениеIt’s time to learn the names of months,” began that young but wise sheep Yarn. He hoped his cousins would listen for once. Unfortunately, lambs prefer fresh grass and daydreams to learning. Yarn’s words drifted past their ears, disappearing with the summer breeze.
At last, a perplexed cousin, swallowing some well-chewed clover, asked: “What’s a month?”
“Uncle Ram Merino explained months,” Yarn chided, “but you weren’t paying attention.”
“Why, is uncle some kind of king we have to obey?” the lamb wondered. “Is that why he lives way off at the end of the pasture?”
“No,” Yarn answered patiently. “Uncle is not a king. Kings live in castles. Uncle lives here. He likes quiet so he can think about things like months. Now uncle has collected twelve of them for us. We should learn their names.”
“I still don’t know what a month is,” complained the cousin.
“Think of them as twelve pastures we browse through each year,” suggested Yarn, “beginning first with. . .
