COUNTRY INFO
Location:
The Kingdom of Thailand borders Myanmar in the north-west and west, Laos in the north and north-east, Cambodia in the south-east, and Malaysia in the south.

The territory of Thailand occupies a considerable part of Southeast Asia's land area and extends southeast of the last foothills of the Himalayas to the Malay Peninsula, enclosing the Gulf of Thailand, an edge of the South China Sea. The land surface of Thailand is reminiscent of an elephant's head. The maximum extent in north-south direction is 1,770 km (1099,827 mile), in east-west direction at 780 km (484,67 mile). Geography:
The northern region is mountainous, where the highest point of the country is: Doi Inthanon (2565 m = 1,59 mile). The north-east (Isan) consists of the Khorat high plateau, a landscape that is drippy in the summer and flooded in the rainy season, which does not permit intensive agriculture.
The central region is dominated by the Mae Nam Chao Phraya (Chao-Phraya River), which feeds the fertile land and flows south of Bangkok into the Gulf of Thailand. The eastern region is characterized by agriculture and is situated on the Gulf of Thailand.
The southern region is located on the elongated Malay Peninsula, which separates the Pacific Ocean from the Indian Ocean. The Isthmus of Kra forms the narrowest point between the two seas and is only 64 km (39,77 mile) wide. Therefore, it is also referred to as a "thin neck" in Thailand. Mountain landscapes (in the northern part the Tenasserim mountains on the border with Myanmar, the extreme south the border mountains Sankalakhiri to Malaysia), rainforest and dream beaches alternate.
