ОглавлениеWhat has not already been written about Vienna! Nevertheless, this city you just have to experience and explore for yourself. All the Viennese complexities, attractions and hidden secrets, and the whole atmosphere, gives the Austrian capital a spell, where the visitor can hardly resist.
On both sides of the Danube Vienna has gathered everything that can make fun alone or in twos. It is an architectural open-air museum of Gothic to Art Nouveau, a historic fairground, the city has castles abound, put down to the smallest angle of romance and is blessed with lush greenery.
Vienna's history began in the first century AD. The Romans called this settlement Vindobona. The remains of the Roman era can be seen to this day in the city. In the Middle Ages, Vienna developed into a major trading center, mainly through the Amber Road and the Salt Road that meet here.
During the Habsburg dynasty, Vienna became to one of Europe's largest cultural and economic centers. Maria Theresa Empire was an important period in the history of the city. Vienna became famous and glorious. The hallmark of the Baroque and Rococo can also be found in today's downtown.
Vienna heyday was in the second half of the 19th century, when Franz Joseph and his wife Elisabeth ruled. This period is also important for Vienna and Budapest, because at that time they became modern cities. Today Vienna is known about its museums, events, coffee houses, concert halls and monuments.
