III. Adoration with Mary, the Perfect Adorer

“My soul magnifies the Lord,and my spirit rejoices in God my Savior.”

— Luke 1:46-47

Like Our Lady, St. Faustina’s soul magnified the Lord, and her spirit rejoiced in God, her Savior.

Like Our Lady, she, too, experienced deep personal sorrows.

And like Our Lady, she adored Jesus. One, in the twentieth century, kneeling before the tabernacle. The other, in the first century, chosen by God to be that first tabernacle.

Of course, the two women were such dear and intimate friends. Not just lifelong, but for all eternity.

In order to fulfill God’s will, Faustina knew to stay very close to Our Lady. She loved the Rosary, the Immaculate Heart, Marian Novenas, the sorrows of Our Lady, and consecration prayers to the Mother of God. She consecrated to Our Lady all her concerns. Faustina understood that without the Blessed Mother, there would be no Eucharistic Jesus. In order to love Jesus in the Eucharist we must love His Mother, the first tabernacle.

I Model My Life on You

O sweet Mother of God,

I model my life on You;

You are for me the bright dawn;

In You I lose myself, enraptured.

O Mother, Immaculate Virgin,

In You the divine ray is reflected,

Midst storms, ’tis You who teach me to love the Lord,

O my shield and defense from the foe. (1232)

“In the evening, when I was praying, the Mother of God told me, Your lives must be like Mine: quiet and hidden, in unceasing union with God, pleading for humanity and preparing the world for the second coming of God.” (625)

Mary’s Song of Adoration: The Magnificat

My soul magnifies the Lord,

and my spirit rejoices in God my Savior,

for he has regarded the low estate of his handmaiden.

For behold, henceforth all generations will call me blessed;

for he who is mighty has done great things for me,

and holy is his name.

And his mercy is on those who fear him

from generation to generation.

He has shown strength with his arm,

he has scattered the proud in the imagination of their hearts,

he has put down the mighty from their thrones,

and exalted those of low degree;

he has filled the hungry with good things,

and the rich he has sent empty away.

He has helped his servant Israel,

in remembrance of his mercy,

as he spoke to our fathers,

to Abraham and to his posterity for ever. (Lk 1:46–55)

A Rosary of Adoration

St. Faustina loved to pray the Rosary, not just in the chapel but while walking or even while weeding the garden! She encouraged the “wards” under her supervision to pray the Rosary — or say Hail Marys — for someone living or dead.

The funeral of Sister Faustina — who died on October 5, 1938 — took place two days later on the First Friday of the month and the feast of Our Lady of the Rosary.

“Christmas Eve. Today I was closely united with the Mother of God. I relived her interior sentiments. In the evening, before the ceremony of the breaking of the wafer, I went into the chapel to break the wafer, in spirit, with my loved ones, and I asked the Mother of God for graces for them. My spirit was totally steeped in God.” (182)

Simply “Mary”

St. Maximilian Kolbe — who died in the Auschwitz concentration camp only three years after St. Faustina passed away in Kraków (a distance of about forty miles) — was a fellow Polish “Apostle of Adoration.”

In his own words, this strong supporter of Perpetual Adoration considered Eucharistic Adoration the “most important work area in the friary.”

Like St. Faustina, he frequently visited the Blessed Sacrament throughout his day, and he sometimes focused the entire period expressly on Our Lady. On those occasions, he might simply repeat the one-word prayer “Mary” because, he was certain, in that way he gave “the greatest joy possible” to Jesus.

The Dolors of Our Lady

Reflect on the sorrows that afflicted Mary’s heart as an act of adoration.

O God, come to my assistance; O Lord, make haste to help me. Glory be…
