ОглавлениеCHAPTER 2
“My political voice began to jump, with so much material, I wrote of Trump.”
Politics
As two or more groups get together,
And try to influence one another,
Complications seem to mount, agreements
Become elusive, even among brothers.
These people of power and voice
Often forget their priorities,
Looking more like novice frat boys and
Sisters of sororities.
Only through flexibility and clarity
Can a compromise emerge and prevail.
As minds come together and
Conflicts erode, common goals will not derail.
Most important of all, they must be
Involved and not blind
To the issues that surround, no matter
How difficult one might find.
Legislat—Or?
There was a time, long ago,
Where those chosen to lead us
Were respected, admired, and revered.
Nowadays, this trend seems to have shifted…
Those politically powerful
Are often hated or feared.
This change in perception manifest slowly.
It didn’t just happen overnight.
Many years were needed here as this
Brew fermented, with a vintage clearly in sight.
What’s been seen over the years are statesmen
Who’ve acquired amnesia toward those they work for,
Becoming allied to varied special interests,
As if those groups are impossible to ignore.
As a nation already having great diversity,
It would seem unnecessary,
To add fuel to the fire and divide.
Many are expecting more from their elected,
The need for integrity through the rough,
Political waters, while navigating
To the unified.
The Trump Card
This event evolved to a unique spectacle,
With history’s promise to record
The brazen newcomer, and a former first lady,
Verbally sparring to be the new lord.
This political process can become ugly,
Causing many to turn away.
Yet the effect cannot be ignored,
As people’s votes seem to sway.
So how was it possible, this victory made,
Through all the division and the hate?
Seems that focusing on certain fears and prior glories…
It becoming our current fate.
Bipartisan Memo to Potus
Date: June 2017
To: President Trump, aka The Donald
Decisions made recently have been divisive,
And quite frankly, more difficult to support.
All the while, many heads have been left scratching,
Wondering not if, but when, the issue will be in court.
Between personal, social, or financial histories, and those
“Pesky” foreign policies, it’s hoped some consensus may be seen.
Otherwise, some wagons may be circling,
As if a coming quarantine.
Clearly, it’s getting pretty damn hot here in the
Kitchen, with many wanting to get out,
Constituents, angered and more vocal, are no
Longer talking—they’re here to shout!
With so much friction and division, we can’t
Move forward, often threatening a firm stance,
And whether or not, we belong to the same party,
We’re certainly not attending the same dance!
To conclude, we’d all appreciate if you’d “park”
The “dealmaker” persona, favoring a posture
More presidential.
Otherwise, we feel compelled to inform, your
Footprint in history will likely be
Inconsequential.
Hocus Potus
Seems that our president has strong opinions
Regarding patriotism and our national anthem.
The discontented, choosing to break from the norm,
Should be fired for their disrespect and activism.
I can’t think of a more passive expression of their
Differences these activists have chosen. I mean,
Really, Gandhi would be proud!
If they mimicked some of these other groups running
Around, showing more aggression and violence,
I’m certain it would stir a crowd.
There’s volatility inherent with this topic,
As it reaches deeply to the core,
But should this division be cause for separation—
Or even punishment if some are shown the door?
Well, the last time I checked, this was still
The “land of the free and home of the brave,”
And this movement’s “architect” has been tested
Harshly, with his courageous message seeking
The promise of parity and not to enslave.
Trumpire
(Recently, I’ve noticed similarities between baseball umpires and POTUS, aka The Donald.)
First, both at times might be accused of
Needing glasses, due to a severe lack of vision.
Seems that both get scorned and ridiculed
When they make an unpopular decision.
Second, may God help you, if you dare to
Disagree with them and argue.
They’ve both been known to throw those
“Out of the game,” when presented
With a different view.
Though this is just a couple of examples
Relating the mentioned two,
There exist many others, if one
Spends a moment or a few.
So, yes, this is my voice,
As I raise it loudly in dissent,
And though I have the utmost respect
For the office…
I have none for the man
As president.
Trumped Up
His personal wealth and unpredictable nature
Are cause for concern,
As most have seen.
While his agenda appears vindictive
Toward his predecessor’s record,
With a goal to demean.
With a lack of political history,
His actions seem personal
And tightly held.
I question the integrity and his
Refusal to provide answers,
Even when they are compelled.
As a citizen, this has led me to the point
Where I feel there is no credibility
From the office he commands.
And I’m of the opinion that
He is certainly no genius…no matter
How much his fortune expands.
Presidential Socal Medium
In general, I look to avoid
The fruit that often falls
From our nation’s highest branch.
Since the rhetoric
Has left many stupefied,
The fresh and spoiled ready to blanch.
As all the twittering comes
Spinning down, like ballistic bombs
Just waiting to explode,
The attentions captured aren’t surprised,
Knowing this weapon’s range
Has not plateaued.
Yet if I treat the news as fake,
Will I myself be uninformed?
Or should I take my meal of disbelief—
With a grain of salt…
Taking cover from the shrapnel,
To be ignored?
Playing Trump Cards
Many efforts have been made
To best others and gain leverage
All around.
All the while noticing
That friends and neighbors
Are now lost and not found.
So if Great Britain and the Canadians
Decided that America needed defeat,
Would a victory on the battlefield
Even be needed to be complete?
Whether they’re across the Atlantic
Or just across the border to the north,
Some may claim that past conflicts
Have already been put forth.
Yet if the soils of economics
Are continually tilled
For greater yield,
Global judgments
May show that greed harvested
The level playing field.
Humpdy Trumpdy
Humpdy Trumpdy
Jumped on his great wall.
Humpdy Trumpdy
Wouldn’t take any fall.
And when all of Donald’s horses-asses,
And all the Donald’s ass-kissin’ men
Tried to pick up the pieces that
Donald created again…
Humpdy Trumpdy would just smile,
Turn to a twit to say,
It’ll be paid for
By every Mexican!
