This Edo-period painting shows artisans making and patinating sword guards and other fittings for sword mountings. It is from a series of twenty-four works painted on two six-panel screens called Shokunin Zukishi-e (paintings of craftsmen). The paintings, classified as Juyo Bunkazai (Important Cultural Properties), are preserved at the Kita-in Temple in Kawagoe, Saitama Prefecture. Reprinted with permission.
