Foreword

Use this Toolkit to support the

formation of a new coalition

or to enhance the efforts of

an already existing coalition.

The information, strategies, ideas, and resources shared throughout this Toolkit are drawn from innovative and effective efforts taking place all across our nation today.

A strong coalition is essential to end human trafficking in your community. We all have a part to play, and we must all engage together around a comprehensive strategy in order to succeed.

Thank you for your passion and commitment to mobilize your community to end human trafficking and to protect the vulnerable.

You may be a concerned citizen desiring to bring collaboration to your com-munity by starting a coalition. Or, you may be an already established coalition seeking to enhance your existing efforts. In either case, this Toolkit is designed to be a powerful resource for you.

Before you begin, it is important to comprehend two truths from the outset:

Human trafficking did not appear overnight. It is a result—the gravest of consequences—of leaving many things undone and many issues unresolved for the vulnerable in our world and in our own communities. Which means that, we must tackle this evil head on AND simultaneously go upstream to prevent it from ever happening in the first place.

We are not powerless to stop this – in the life of a single individual, in our communities, and throughout our world.

So what will it take to eradicate human trafficking in your local community? Who all must participate, and what must be done? Community coalitions are uniquely positioned to make a difference. This Toolkit will show you how.

When we engage together, miracles can happen on behalf of those in need. We witness it every day, and we are here to serve as a friend to your efforts as well.
