The Power of Purpose
ОглавлениеIt's my hope that you can see how Finding Your Purpose is a life‐enhancing process. It can evolve over time, but your Purpose is always uniquely yours. Your Purpose may seem silly to people close to you, or it may feel like a long, hard dream to fulfill. But this Pivot Point is essential for success. It is your North Star and compass. As the late and legendary founder of Zappos, Tony Hseih, said, “When you walk with purpose, you collide with destiny.” Purpose can drive you, corporations, governments, families, communities, teams, and more. The momentum that purpose can provide is what is so powerful. Purpose can align people and move mountains.
If you are struggling to define your Purpose, or defining it for the first time, here are some suggestions to try:
Find some photos of yourself from key points in your life and spread them out. Take snapshots of them with your phone and put them on your computer so you can blow them up and look into your eyes. Find a time where your eyes are sparkling, and you seem excited about life. What were you doing then? Take note.
List five things that you really enjoy doing, that you'd do for free if you could, and which would help others. This could be something from your present job or not.
List five things that you don't enjoy doing, or which would benefit from improvements that you see are needed, but that could help others. Again, it could be in your current endeavors or not.
Your purpose is trying to shine through. And if you are a late bloomer, rejoice! It's never too late to Find Your Purpose and thrive. As Steve Jobs said, “If you haven't found it yet, keep looking. Don't settle. As with all matters of the heart, you'll know when you find it.”
Your purpose needs to be flexible enough to embrace the changing flow of life as it evolves. Understand that the reed that bends is the reed that survives the storm.
