Lessons Learnt

Оглавление

The literature at the start of this chapter identified the many issues that challenge midwifery practice in fulfilling women's expectations and wishes to achieve the childbearing experience that they want. As illustrated in the stories above, physical and intuitive emotional effort is required of midwives to ensure positive experiences for every woman, but they are sometimes ethically challenged by events. Women, on the other hand, suggest that they perceive a need to push the boundaries of conventional maternity care to achieve childbirth expectations, steered by an instinctive need to preserve their rights to be in control throughout these events to achieve a ‘normal’ childbearing experience.
