THE WHITE HOUSE

Washington D.C., USA

The White House is the main workplace and official home of the President of the United States. It has been the residence of every U.S. President since John Adams took up residency in 1800. The building is done in neoclassical stye and is made of Aquia stone, and painted white. The construction began in October 1792 and the building was completed in 1800. In 1814 the White House was set on fire by the British during the War of 1812. It was rebuilt after the fire and continued to undergo minor changes by subsequent presidents. The Truman administration was forced to close down the building because it was starting to show signs of serious wear and stress. A complete renovation went underway, rebuilding the superstructure using steel instead of timber. The Kennedys redecorated many of the rooms during their administration, giving it the elegant look it has today. The White House is an accredited museum with over 5000 people visiting each day.
