Introduction: Shades of Ullysses and James Joyce
ОглавлениеWhat is it about an Irishman, that no matter where he is born, he is always blessed with the gift of unique perception? And such is Dermot Gill. All of these manifestations of his gives new meaning to the word “spellbound”.
Dermot Gill simply accepts raw reality as it is and presents it in such a charming way. Yes! In his spirit and psyche there are indeed shades of James Joyce, for instance as James Joyce in his book “Ullysses” describes Dublin, then after reading him, it feels as if you visited Dublin (or at least want to go there). Dermot Gill has the same effect on one in his descriptions of and perceptions of places and faces in Australia.
I also have been privileged to personally first-hand experience his brilliance and listen to him communicate. In a world where communications are fast breaking down, and socialisation is fast fading, he is reviving it.
In his work on politics and religion, even though you don’t always share his views, that he expounds, you can’t help changing some of your views on these matters. As an aging lonely Romani Gypsy, I lament the passing, and near extinction of yesteryears values, and a beautiful culture of values such as belief in God, Queen and Country, respect for family hierarchy, respect for other people’s property and person seem to be fading away and sometimes even lost; But Dermot’s work upholds and revives them; Great, Dermot and thanks “Ma” for your gift.
Yes, Dermot and I are kindred spirits. I also note that to be Dermot’s foe is the foe’s loss. But to be his friend is a most appreciative friend for life. Do not rush through his poetry! But pause and accept the deeper meaning of it and thus profit from it, (old adage) “Wisdom is not in words, but in the meaning of words”.
His unbiased, untainted, pureness of his perception of things and places tells of the way he is gifted of seeing things as they really are. He sees through people, doors, and walls, and he sees beyond the deceptions of life. Again “Thanks, Ma”, your trials and tribulations of a mother were not in vain.
