Before Patty can take back a dress she can’t afford, Cathy wears it to a piano concert and accidentally spills punch on it.

Patty becomes allergic to Cathy.
Patty inadvertently adopts a Korean boy named Kim.
In order to keep Richard from dropping out of school, Patty pretends to quit too, but her tactic backfires.

Via flashbacks (clips from the unaired pilot), Patty and Cathy reminisce about Cathy’s arrival at the Lane household.
