The Model of Educational Reconstruction (short: MER) provides a frame for science teacher education research, like this study, and for lesson content planning. The scientific clarification as a part of the MER is a key feature but there is still a need for research: The scientific clarification needs to be scientifically clarified. Thus, conceptions of preservice science teachers about the lesson content planning and the scientific clarification have to be examined as one part of applying the MER. This article presents the results of this partial study, which is one step along the way to formulate empirically based guidelines for the university instruction of the scientific clarification for preservice science teachers.
