Honky Tonk Piano Player

James Compton

is a 76-year-old self-taught woodcarver from

Ringtown, Pa. He has served several terms as the

president of the Schuylkill County Woodcarvers

Club. A Bill Higginbotham book inspired this

carving. Jim carved the 11"-tall figure from seven

pieces of basswood, red cedar, and white pine.

Rabbit

Beth Walter of Scales Mound, Ill., used a

chain saw to carve her version of Floyd Rhadigan

and Leah Goddard’s caricature rabbit, which

was featured in

Woodcarving Illustrated

Winter/

Spring 2016 (Issue 74). Unlike the miniature

original, Beth’s rabbit stands 3' tall. View more of

Inspiring a Younger Generation

Jeff Kleineick of

Lexington, N.C., made this business card holder at

his son’s request. Jeff carved the main character

and rock from one piece of basswood and made

the flag, bow, flintlock pistols, and leather pouch

separately. When Jeff entered it into carving

shows, he noticed that it piqued the interest of the

younger generation. Contact Jeff at jkleineick@
