Bilateral versus Unilateral Fitting Summary

Оглавление

There is good evidence that bilateral BCHI fitting improves speech/tone thresholds, both in quiet and in noise, as well as sound localization via the addition of interaural cues. Subjective outcomes have shown significant improvements in GBI, although the second BCHI increased it less than the first [29]. Future developments could include the use of phase inversion between BCHIs which, at low frequencies, has the ability to increase signal summation [30]. Additionally, it may be possible to develop a cross-talk cancellation technology, allowing sound reaching the contralateral cochlea to be cancelled by an out-of-phase signal from the contralateral BCHI, thus allowing improved stereo separation and the restoration of interaural cues [31].
