Physiology of Water Homeostasis Introduction
ОглавлениеThe normal function of cellular metabolic pathways demands the presence of specific physical and chemical conditions. Disturbances in what the 19th century French physiologist Claude Bernard called the “milieu interieur” (internal environment) are a threat to the constancy of these conditions [1]. This constancy, we now call homeostasis, is challenged by external stimuli, in the form of variations in dietary intake. It has devolved to the kidneys to respond to these challenges and to be primarily responsible for the maintenance of water homeostasis of the internal environment.
