When the nursing associate provides care that is non‐judgemental, then the risk of stigmatising a person is reduced. Some people with mental health problems have reported that the social stigma that is attached to mental ill health and the discrimination that they experience can make their difficulties worse, and this can also make it harder to recover. The nursing associate is ideally placed to reduce the damaging effects of stigma.
