Selenium (Se) is a vital mineral in domestic animals’ nutrition which helps up‐regulation of body antioxidants status and mitigation of free radicals. However, selenosis occurs in domestic animals due to the consumption of water, plants, and feed supplements containing higher levels of Se. Hence, feeding management plays an important role in mitigating Se toxicity and modulating Se‐induced body metabolism. However, based on current understanding and ameliorative measures, selenosis cannot be prevented at advanced stage. Therefore, further studies should be carried out on the removal of cellular excess selenium, inhibition of selenium‐induced metabolism using metal chelator, antagonist, competititive inhibition of enzyme co‐factor, etc. as future preventive measures of selenosis in domestic animals.
