Panel interviews arouse empathy

Оглавление

Simply by watching a panel interview, you create a greater understanding of the fact that people are different, and you help explain how they set themselves apart from others. Misunderstandings and communication problems, and the conflicts that arise from them, also become recognizable and visible. People with different Enneagram types generally can’t understand each other well. After a panel interview, I’m often approached by people who suddenly recognize their father, sister, partner, or colleague in the type that was interviewed in the panel. They’re delighted when they develop a slightly better understanding of what is happening in the other person and what is motivating them. They get the chance to hear something that reveals the hidden nature of someone they know, and it's coming from someone who isn’t close to them, but rather who greatly resembles the relevant person.

The narrative tradition (and particularly the panel interview) leads to a better understanding of other people. If you strive toward this understanding, you will find this method to be helpful in developing empathy for others. Empathy grows when you hear other people talk about their feelings of powerlessness, their weaknesses and frustrations, and their good intentions and efforts to learn, for example. Emotional intelligence can be learned and developed. I can’t quite imagine a more effective, efficient, and pleasant method than this one.
