Nonimmigrants enter the United States for a temporary period of time, and their activities are restricted to the reasons their visas are granted. In other words, if you enter the United States on a tourist visa, you may not legally work because that would necessitate an employment visa.

Business travelers who stay for pleasure after their business concludes — provided they leave the country within the time period authorized when they are admitted to the United States — do not need to go through the paperwork of changing their status from visitor for business to visitor for pleasure.
