7. THE WHATSOEVERS OF OUR LIVES

Оглавление

Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things.

—Philippians 4:8 KJV

One of the first lessons that most Christians learn is that there are many things beyond our control. Circumstances in life are varied and often can push us to the edge of our faith. If there is anything you should know today it is: whatever has come into your life has come to make you stronger. Look at Paul; although terrible things had happened to him and his life was constantly under threat, he maintained his spiritual focus and praised God under all circumstances.

When you are a couple of destiny, it is so important that you maintain your spiritual perspective. How do you look at life? Do you only see the negative? Do you allow your mind to magnify everything that is going wrong? I tell people all the time that if you look at your situation crazy, it will look back at you crazy. Remember that it's never as bad as it looks. If the devil can distort your focus, he can rob you of the destiny God has for your life. Remember, we don't walk by sight; we walk by faith. You have to focus your faith optimisticallyand shun the spirit of pessimism. Yes, your circumstances are very real, but you've been called to praise God under them. It doesn't matter how others have dealt with the challenges you face or even how you have dealt with them in the past. Your circumstances are unique and your response to them is also unique. You are different. God has His hand on your life.

Perception is a process. Before you act, Paul says think. Think on the whatsoevers of life. Paul gives a list of whatsoever things in Philippians. You and your mate should spend time going through this list and identify all the things in your relationship that are true, just, pure, lovely, and of good report. Don't allow circumstances to weigh on your relationships, but rather let them help you develop the resolve to be who God has called you to be under them. Although you can't change some things, you can be who you are called to be in the midst of them.

L E T ' S PRAY Dear Lord, help us focus on what is just, pure, lovely, and of good report, because we know that You are the author of all these good things. Help us see the good in each other and be who You need us to be in the midst of our trials and temptations, in Jesus' name. Amen.
