1. Think of a category or topic.

2. Draw two ladders on the board.

3. Give the first student in each team a word from the category.

4. The students should write the word on the first rung of their team’s ladder.

5. If the spelling is correct, the second team member is given a new word to spell.

6. If the spelling is incorrect, the second team member should correct it.

7. The third team member then gets the new word to spell.

8. The team to get to the top of the ladder first, is the winner.

1. Start with short and simple words. Progress to longer and more complicated words.

2. Ask one team to give the other team a word from the category.

1. Ask the teams to make sentences using the words on the ladders.

2. Ask the students to identify the categories.
