Valley fold
Fold toward yourself.
Black arrowhead

Fold away from yourself.

Make a crease
Fold the paper once, and then return it to the original position (leaving a crease).

Turn the paper over
Change the orientation
Rotate the paper.
The degree of rotation will vary.
Following diagrams are scaled up
This symbol indicates that the following diagrams are shown larger, for ease of comprehension.
Following diagrams are scaled down
This symbol indicates that the following diagrams are shown smaller, to show more of the model.
Fold in equal portions
This symbol means that two parts should be the same width.
The example above calls for folding the paper into equal thirds.
Inside reverse fold
Fold the tip of the paper inward.
Outside reverse fold
Fold the tip of the paper outward.
Fold a fraction of a given distance
Bisect an angle
Two parts have the same angle.
Make a crease that bisects the angle—in this example, fold line B to line A.
Change your point of view
This symbol indicates that you should change your perspective before moving on to the next diagram.
