Grammar Focus: Articles (a, an, the, and zero article)

1. Общая информация об артиклях

Артикли – это слова, которые помогают определить существительное и уточнить, о каком объекте идёт речь. В английском языке существуют:

Неопределённые артикли: a, an

Определённый артикль: the

Отсутствие артикля (zero article)

Артикли помогают правильно говорить о вещах, людях и местах в обычной жизни, в том числе дома, на выходных и в свободное время.

2. Неопределённые артикли (a / an)

A / an используется, когда речь идёт о чём-то в первый раз или о чём-то одном из многих.

a используется перед словами, которые начинаются с согласного звука.

an используется перед словами, которые начинаются с гласного звука.

Примеры:

I read a book on Saturday.

She made an omelette for breakfast.

We watched a movie at home.

3. Определённый артикль (the)

The используется, когда речь идёт о конкретном предмете, известном собеседнику, или когда предмет уже упоминался.

Примеры:

I cleaned the kitchen in the morning.

We played football in the garden.

The TV was too loud, so I turned it off.

4. Отсутствие артикля (Zero article)

Артикль не используется, когда речь идёт о обобщениях, именах собственных, языках и абстрактных понятиях.

Примеры:

I like reading books.

We had lunch at home.

Children often play in garden.

Story: A Weekend at Home

On Saturday morning, I usually wake up early. I have a cup of tea and an apple for breakfast. Then I read a book or watch a movie.

In the afternoon, I help my parents with the housework. I clean the kitchen and sometimes tidy the living room. After that, I play computer games or listen to music.

On Sunday, I usually spend time in the garden or read another book. Sometimes I make an omelette for breakfast. In the evening, I relax and prepare for school. Weekends at home are calm but very enjoyable.
