ОглавлениеChapter 4
Well, Tammy was twenty-three now, and five years had gone by, and she was still sitting in that stinking ass jail. The only good part about it since she had been a goody two-shoes was that she landed a job cleaning the warden’s house. The warden was fine as shit, salt-and-pepper hair, six feet and one inch tall, about 230 pounds, and has a very nice body for a white man. His name was Darius Spencer. He seemed to be a very nice man and very easy to talk to. He told Tammy that she just took a wrong turn in life and that she gave her heart to the wrong man; she just needed someone to love her for the person that she was. Those words really made Tammy feel good. He seemed so sincere when he was saying those words to her. Every day after that, when Tammy would go to the warden’s house to clean, she felt close to him. To be honest, Tammy was falling in love with a man that she knew she would never have. She knew he didn’t feel the same about her. How could he? She was a convicted murderer, and she knew she was not the type of woman that he would be interested in.
Tammy continued to talk with him every day when she cleaned his house, which was very strange because for some reason, he would always be there when it was time for Tammy to clean. One evening, around 6:00 p.m., the prison was on lock down, and the warden Mr. Spencer requested for Tammy to come to his house. He had a special cleaning job that he needed done, for he was having some very important people at his home the next day. Tammy wondered what it was he wanted her to do. Tammy got up and dressed, even though she was a little funky and made her way up to the warden’s (Mr. Spencer) house so that she could do what was requested of her.
One of the guards escorted Tammy up to the house; he didn’t walk her in, just to the door. So Tammy rang the doorbell, and the guard stated she was to just go in, so that was what Tammy did. When Tammy opened the door, the house was very quiet, and Warden Spencer was nowhere in sight. Tammy saw a note on the table that she was to go into the kitchen. Tammy felt to herself that this was kind of strange because he never left a note before; any other time, he would just be there and tell her what he wanted done, and then, he would return to his study. Tammy complied with the note and went into the kitchen; the table was set for dinner for two.
Tammy said, “Oh, so I guess he wanted me to be his servant for the evening for him and his dinner guest,” which she didn’t mind because he was a very nice man after all. Then out of nowhere, he appeared in the kitchen, and he looked very nice. He had on a dinner jacket. Every time Tammy saw him, he had on a suit.
He said, “Hello, Tammy. I’m glad you could make it this evening.”
So Tammy asked him who she would be serving this evening besides him. Warden Spencer stated no one, that she wouldn’t be serving anyone. Tammy asked him, “Then who is the table seat for?”
He said for him and her. She asked Warden Spencer, “What is going on here?”
Maybe she should leave. Warden Spencer told her that she was a very nice and beautiful woman and that he wanted to do something nice for her because of all the excellent work that she does for him in his home. Tammy smiled and told him that thank you was good enough for her, and besides, it gave her a chance to get out of that jail for some air and away from those other women. He asked her to have a seat. Tammy told him that she wasn’t dressed for dinner, and besides, she thought she was just coming up here to work.
She said, “You must excuse me. I haven’t even had my shower.”
Warden Spencer said that was no problem, that she could take a bath there while he finished dinner. Well, the part about the bath sounded good for Tammy. Just to be able to lie back in a tub of water with no one else around sounded like heaven to her. She figured it wouldn’t hurt anyone, and besides, she didn’t want to do anything that would hurt her chances of getting out of this hell hole as soon as possible. So Warden Spencer took Tammy upstairs to the bathroom, ran the water in the tub with some bubble bath; he gave her his bathrobe to put on when she was done. Warden Spencer told her to enjoy it but not be too long or the dinner would get cold.
Tammy laid back and relaxed in the tub for about twenty minutes thinking why did this man tell a lie and had her brought up to his house and for what reason. I hope he doesn’t think he’s going to get any pussy because I’m nobody’s call girl, and I’m not a whore that sleeps around with just anyone. I’m not a fuckin prostitute either.
So after relaxing in the tub, Tammy got up to get out of the tub, and Warden Spencer knocked on the door and asked her, “Was everything okay?”
Tammy said yes, that she would be out shortly. Tammy put her panties and T-shirt on and went downstairs to the kitchen; by this time, the lights were out, and Warden Spencer had candles burning on the table. He asked Tammy to have a seat; he would be right back. Upon his return, he brought out a bottle of wine and two chilled glasses. He sat down at the table and told Tammy that this was something he had never done before, and he really didn’t know why he was doing it now. He said she was different. He had never seen a person like her. He told her that he was not holding her past against her, and that sometimes in our lives, we just look for love in the wrong people, that he knew she had been hurt. But for this evening, he just wanted to give her the valentine’s dinner that she was supposed to have had with Fred.
The dinner was nice. Warden Spencer prepared T-bone steaks, baked potatoes, and a tossed salad with garlic bread. The rest of the time at the dinner table, Tammy had nothing to say. When dinner was over, he asked Tammy what else was on the menu for that night. He told Tammy that he wanted to give her the type of night she would have had in the first place because she deserved that and so much more.
Then he told her, “And now, it’s time to let those wounds heal and go on with her life when she gets out of prison.”
Tammy told the warden that there was no way that she could have that night, and besides, he wasn’t Fred. He told Tammy he knew he was not Fred, and there was no way he would want to be a person like that because he had no love, feelings, and most of all, he didn’t understand her the way that he did. Tammy knew it would spoil the lovely night that Mr. Spencer had planned, but she had to know just what he was up to. She asked him what was he trying to accomplish or prove. He said he wasn’t trying to prove anything; he just wanted to give her what she truly deserved.
So Tammy said “Oh, well, what the hell. We were going to eat strawberries dipped in chocolate.”
So the Warden asked, “What else after that?”
“Well, then I wanted to make passionate love to him. I wanted him to know and feel just how much I did love him.”
At that moment, he got up and went into the kitchen and came back out with fresh strawberries and chocolate melted in a bowl. Tammy told Mr. Spencer, “This is not necessary.”
Warden Spencer said, “First, no more Warden Spencer or Mr. Spencer. It’s Darius, and from now on, when we are alone, that is what I would like for you to call me, all right?”
Well, Tammy didn’t like the idea, but she agreed to call him Darius.
“Listen, Tammy, I think it would be much better to have the strawberries in the den in front of the fireplace. Don’t you agree?”
“Yes, I guess so.”
“You don’t have to guess. Is that what you would like to do?”
Tammy replied, “Yes.”
Darius said, “That is what we will do. I want you to talk with me, share things with me, and if it’s something you don’t like, feel free to say so. I’m only a man, and that’s the way I want you to treat me.”
Well, they went into the den and sat on the floor in front of the fireplace and ate strawberries and talked. Darius made Tammy feel very comfortable. She felt she could tell him almost anything. He was a very loving, sweet, and understanding kind of man. Tammy felt as though she had known him all her life in just one night.
Suddenly, Darius got up off the floor and told Tammy he had something special for her because he was sure that she hadn’t done this in a long time. He went to the stereo and turned it on, it was playing a slow song. He asked her, “Could I have this dance?”
She told him, she would love to dance with him.
So he held her in his arms, and they started to dance. While dancing, at that point, she wished that she could turn back the hands of time and none of this nightmare would have ever happened. Then she could really enjoy herself and really feel that this man wanted her as his lover, girlfriend, or even his wife. But Tammy knew this was not the case at all. He just wanted to play with her head. When the record was over, Tammy was still standing there in his arms, and for some reason, she didn’t want to move. In fact, she couldn’t move because he was holding her so tight. Tammy looked up at him and told him he could let her go now. He stated that was something that he didn’t want to do; in fact, he never wanted to let her go, and then, he kissed her.
Tammy pulled away from him and asked him why he was playing with her head. “Dammit, I’ve been through enough. You will say what you think I want to hear just so that you can fuck me. Well, Mr. Spencer, Darius, or whatever you want to call yourself tonight, I’m not the one. Just take me back to my cell and leave me alone, and just forget this night ever happened because I am not a one-night stand or an easy lay.” Tammy said she just wanted to do her time with no problems and to please just let her do her job.
Tammy moved toward the door; by that time, she was in tears, only hoping and wishing this man really wanted her as someone special in his life. But how could that be with her locked up in here. Then the soft, sweet voice was gone; Darius shouted, “Dammit, Tammy, I’m not playing with your head. I do care for you. In fact, I think I’m falling in love with you! Please come back. Don’t go. Let’s just sit and talk please.”
Tammy told Darius, “I can’t. I’m confused. Why do you want me? How can you say you love me? Look at my life. Look at where I am, who I am. I am in prison for murder. You don’t want me. You are just lonesome and looking for a good fuck, that’s all.”
And she said, “I’m sorry. I can’t and I will not play your game.” She asked him to please just call the guard and let her go back to where she belongs. Darius walked over to Tammy and grabbed her and kissed her once again. He said, “If that’s what you want, then I will do as you asked.”
Tammy told him, “Yes, it’s best for the both of us.”
Darius picked up the radio to call for the guard, and Tammy noticed his voice was changing. He turned and looked at her, and she saw the sadness in his face, but Tammy walked out the door. She waited on the front porch for the guard.
